A great bookstore in Dublin, Ireland

A visit to Ireland. A dream vacation. My husband and I can now check another destination off of our bucket list.

Strolling through the streets of Dublin, I spot it—a sign in a store window that reads “Book Shop.” You know what happens next. I rush in to see if they have children’s books.

BINGO! Tucked in the back of the shop, I find the children’s section. Over 3,450 miles away from Virginia, and yet here, I feel at home. After several minutes of admiring the well-stocked shelves, I settle into a comfy chair and peruse The One with the Waggly Tail: Favourite Rhymes from an Irish Childhood. This compilation is the teamwork of Irish children’s author, Sarah Webb and Irish illustrator, Steve McCarthy.

My silent thoughts: I love this book. It inspires me. There’s room in my suitcase for one picture book. I can make it fit. No problem. And supporting local authors and illustrators is a good thing.

Sold.

If you find yourself in Dublin, go visit the friendly folks at Winding Stair Bookshop.
